Online Safety Tips

Your security is of the utmost importance at First Community Bank. We take substantive measures to protect your identity and make sure your banking is as safe and secure as possible. FCB strongly recommends that customers review the identity theft brochure provided at account opening and available at all bank locations.

One of the best ways to stop online criminals is to stay informed. Below are some practical tips to help you protect yourself against identity theft.

Identity theft can occur in a number of ways:

  • Getting personal information from discarded bills or credit statements.
  • Eavesdropping on personal transactions in public.
  • Impersonating a bank or credit union through an email.
  • Gathering information from a facsimile of a legitimate site

Here are a few things you can do to prevent identity theft:

  • Shred all documents containing personal information such as your credit card information rather than throwing it away.
  • Log off your computer when not in use.
  • Install anti-virus and anti-spy ware software on your computer and run it at least every two weeks.
  • Be cautious of emails from unknown sources.

If you believe your identity has been compromised, please contact the Federal Trade Commission immediately. The FTC’s website address is http://www.ftc.gov/idtheft, and the toll-free identity theft hotline is (877) IDTHEFT.
